１ 私の兄弟たちよ。あなたがた自身が知っているとおり、わたしたちがあなたがたの所にはいって行ったことは、むだではありませんでした。
２ あなたがたもご存じのように、わたしたちはピリピで先ず苦しめられ、侮辱されましたが、わたしたちの神によって、多くの[1]苦難の中にあっても勇敢に神の福音をあなたがたに語ったのです。
３ なぜなら、あなたがたに対するわたしたちの[3]熱心な勧めは、[4]欺きや汚れた心から出たものでもなく、[5]策略でもありません。
４ しかしわたしたちは、神に[6]承認されて福音を託されている者として、人間に喜ばせるためではなく、わたしたちの心を[7]審査される神に喜ばれるように福音を語っているのです。
５ わたしたちは、あなたがたが知っているように、[8]どんな時にも決して[9]お世辞の言葉を用いたこともなく、[10]もっともらしい理屈をつけて[11]むさぼったこともありません。それは、神が証人であられます。
６ また、わたしたちはキリストの使徒として[12]重んじられることが[13]できたのですが、わたしたちは、あなたがたからであっても、ほかの人々からであっても、人間からの栄誉を求めませんでした。
７ しかし、わたしたちは、あなたがたの間では、まるで乳母が彼女自身の子供を暖かく慈しむように、やさしくふるまったのです。
８ このように、あなたがたを[14]愛し、慕っていたので、わたしたちはただ神の福音ばかりではなくわたしたちの[15]魂さえも[16]喜んであなたがたに[17]分け与えたいと願ったのです。なぜなら、あなたがたが私たちにとって[18]愛すべき者と[19]なったからです。
９ 兄弟たちよ。あなたがたはもちろんわたしたちの労苦と骨折りとを記憶してくださっています。なぜなら、わたしたちはあなたがたのだれひとりにも負担をかけないために、夜も昼も働きながらあなたがたに神の福音を宣べ伝えたからです。
１０ わたしたちが信じているあなたがたに対して、どんなにか敬虔に、そして正しく、非難のないようであったかは、あなたがたと、そして天の神が証人なのです。
１１ そして、あなたがたも知っているとおり、あなたがたひとりびとりに対して、父がその子に対してするように、わたしたちはあなたがたに[20]勧め、慰め、また証しをしました。
１２ それは、あなたがたが彼の王国と栄光とに召して下さった神にふさわしく歩くためです。
１３ そして、これらのことのために、わたしたちがまた絶えまなく神に感謝しているのは、あなたがたがわたしたちから[21]伝えられた神の言を聞いた時に、あなたがたはそれを人の言葉としでではなく、真実に神の言葉として喜んで受け入れたことです。そして、それは信じているあなたがたの内で[22]効果的に働いているのです。
１４ 兄弟たちよ。あなたがたは、ユダヤのキリスト・イエスにある神の諸教会にならう者となりました。なぜなら、彼らがユダヤ人たちからされたように、あなたがたもまた、これらの事であなたがたの同胞から[23]苦しめられたからです。
１５ 彼らは主イエスを殺し、また、彼の預言者たちも殺しました。そしてまた私たちも追放し、神を喜ばせず、全ての人に反対するものとなってしまい、
１６ わたしたちが諸国民が救われる為に彼らに語る事を妨害し、[24]いつも彼らの諸々の罪を満たしています。しかし、神の激しい怒りが[25]究極的に彼らの上に臨んだのです。
１７ しかし、兄弟たちよ。わたしたちは、しばらくの間あなたがたから引き離されていた間、（[26]顔を合わせないだけで、心においてではありませんが）私たちは[27]より一層あなたがたの顔を見たいと熱望したのです。
１８ ですから、わたしたちはあなたがたの所に行こうとしたのです。私、パウロは、一度も、二度もです。しかしサタンが私たちを妨害しました。
１９ 実際、わたしたちの希望と喜び、また[28]誇りの冠は何なのですか？来臨にあたって、私たちの主イエス・キリストの御前にわたしたちの望みと喜び、また喜びの冠とになるのは、あなたがた以外にだれがあるというのでしょうか。
２０ あなたがたこそ、[29]実にわたしたちの[30]栄光であり、また喜びなのです。
1Th 2:1 For, my brothers, you yourselves know our coming in to you, that it was not in vain.
1Th 2:2 But also suffering before, being insulted in Philippi, as you know, we were bold in our God to speak to you the gospel of God in much agony.
1Th 2:3 For our exhortation to you was not of error, nor of uncleanness, nor in guile,
1Th 2:4 but as we have been approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel, even so we speak, not as pleasing men, but God, who tries our hearts.
1Th 2:5 For neither at any time did we use flattering words, as you know, nor with pretense of covetousness; God is witness.
1Th 2:6 Nor did we seek glory from men, neither from you nor from others, being able to be so with heaviness, as apostles of Christ.
1Th 2:7 But we were gentle among you, even as a nurse warmly cherishes her children.
1Th 2:8 So affectionately longing for you, we were willing to have imparted to you, not only the gospel of God, but also our own souls, because you have become beloved to us.
1Th 2:9 For, brothers, you remember our labor and toil. For laboring night and day in order not to put a burden on any one of you, we preached the gospel of God to you.
1Th 2:10 You and God are witnesses how holily and justly and blamelessly we were to you who believe,
1Th 2:11 even as you know how we exhorted and comforted and testified to each one of you, as a father to his children,
1Th 2:12 that you should walk worthy of God, who has called you to His kingdom and glory.
1Th 2:13 And for this cause we thank God without ceasing, that when you received the Word of hearing, of God, you welcomed it as the Word of God, not as a word of men, but as it is, truly the Word of God, which also effectually works in you who believe.
1Th 2:14 For you, brothers, became imitators of the churches of God which are in Judea in Christ Jesus. For you also have suffered these things by your own countrymen, even as they also by the Jews;
1Th 2:15 who both killed the Lord Jesus and their own prophets, also driving us out and they do not please God and being contrary to all men,
1Th 2:16 forbidding us to speak to the nations that they might be saved, to fill up their sins always; but the wrath has come upon them to the uttermost.
1Th 2:17 But, my brothers, when we were taken away from you for an hour's time (in presence, not in heart), more abundantly we were eager with much desire to see your face.
1Th 2:18 Therefore we desired to come to you, truly I, Paul, both once and twice; but Satan hindered us.
1Th 2:19 For what is our hope or joy, or crown of rejoicing? Are you not even to be in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ at His coming?
1Th 2:20 For you are our glory and joy.
